Janakpur pilgrimage tour

Janakpur city   is 377 kilometers 9-11 hrs journey southeast of Kathmandu. Janakpur is the tarai region of Nepal it’s too hot and humid with temperature of 45 degrees, Janakpur was the capital of the ancient state of Mithila, which used to be part of India. The Maithili language is spoken here. It has its own script and is spoken by around two million people. Janakpur is one of the most wonderful cities which was used to known as Maithili. Presently Jabalpur is the Headquarters of Janakpur and Dhanusha District is especially famous as the birthplace of the Hindu goddess Sita, as well as being the site where she was married to Lord Rama. According to the Hindu epic, the Ramayana, the original city of Janakpur was named after King Janak of the Mithila kingdom. Janak found the baby Sita in a furrow of a field and raised her as his daughter. When Sita (also called Janaki) was about sixteen, the king announced that she could be married by whoever was able to string the divine bow of Shiva. Though many royal suitors tried, only Lord Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, was successful. And not only did he string the bow, he also snapped it in two. Thus, Lord Rama won the hand of Sita. The main attraction of Janakpur is Janaki temple, Lord Hanuman’s (Bajranbali) wooden statue, Ram Mandhir, Dhanus Sagar, Ganga Sagar and Sankat Mochan Temple. The one International Railway is situated at Janakpur. Two narrow-gauge lines end at Janakpur, one going east to Jaynagar, just over the Indian border, and the other northwest to Bijalpura. Both train lines are about 30km long. Taking a train is a nice way to see the countryside. The Bibhaha (Viveh) Panchami festival re-enacts the wedding of Rama and Sita. Over 100,000 pilgrims come for this festival. There is a procession with elephants, horses, and decorated chariots with beating drums. It is on the fifth day of the waxing moon in November or early December. Rama Navami, the birthday of Lord Rama, in March-April, is an important festival that draws over 100,000 people. Dipawali in Oct/Nov is a festive time to visit. There is an annual one-day Parikrama (circumambulation) of the city on the full moon day of February/March. Many people offer prostrated obeisances along the entire 8 km route. It is at the same time as the Holi festival

Janakpur Temple:-In 1657, the great saint and poet Sannyasi Shurkishordas discovered a golden statue of the Goddess Sita at the exact place where she was born, which ultimately became the location of the current Janaki Mandir, the Temple of Sita. Shurkishordas is considered to be the founder of modern Janakpur

Janakpuri Main Temple :- Additional periods for large celebrations in Janakpur are Holi, the festival of colors in March; Diwali, the festival of lights in early November; and Chhath, a four-day festival celebrated by the local Mithila people in May and November.
